This event was one of the most useful professional experiences I have had in my medical carrier. Thank you for the hospitality, the wonderful companionship and the very nice social events. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet and befriend colleagues from many different parts of the world.

I continue to find the ICE-CCM forum provides me with a focus when dealing with the various jobs we face. For our next statewide ICU education forum I'm thinking about including risk reduction and crisis management.

Let me publicly thank all the organisers (from Sydney, Toronto and Lilly!) for what was an excellent and higly enjoyable meeting.

Again I would like to thank you very much for inviting me to what I would say is the most informative and inspirational conferences/workshops I've attended. The content was very relevant and so applicable to our everyday life in the ICU . . . .[The simulation] exercise offered learning at multiple levels (clinical teaching, the concept of task saturation, throwing people into a new/strange environment and the need to concentrate on the job at hand, the skill of debriefing etc) which exactly mirrors our consultant roles as clinicians, supervisors, managers, and leaders.

I am very glad to have the opportunity to attend the ICE-CCM 1st Education Forum 2002 in Toronto. Although we have, from our past experience, acknowledged the importance of team work and establishing a core team, it is the first time for me to attend an educational programme focusing on this topic with clear concept and definition. Therefore, it is also a valuable chance for me to learn something new, from which I will surely benefit in my future work.
As the organizer of this programme, you and your collaborators...Dr. Randy Wax, and Stephen Lapinsky have set a good example by your excellent work, which impressed me very much. We have similar problems in daily practice and research. But, as you know, China has a population over 1.2 billion, therefore, we have to face an even greater challenge. I sincerely hope that I could keep communication with you in the future, and also could get your precious help.

The Minister of Health of my Province, San Luis, is very excited with the idea of creating a centre similar to the one you have in Toronto. Imagine my happiness. I will be in touch to let you know how the things are moving. Of course the Intensive Care Society of Argentina will also sponsor the idea. Thank you for remembering your Argentine friends. I send you a special congratulation for all your work.

Since I have a donation from the pharmaceutical industry, we would like to establish a training centre, similar to the one you have in Toronto, mainly with simulators, in order to start involving people from all over the country.

I would like to thank all the those who took part in organizing the meeting. I think it was an extremely successful meeting and I took a lot with me back home. Actually 4 days after I was back, I called my deputy and my chief nurse and his deputy and we started setting new standards in our unit by introducing updated EBM protocols. I also explained to them the importance of being leaders, not only managing a team. We all agreed upon certain steps so all staff members can feel they have a leading team. This is only a start, and it is directly attributed to what this meeting in Toronto did to me. So thank you all again.

We have just bought a simulator and I will be setting up a simulation training program for both the medical and nursing staff...the talk on the preparation of a business case was superb and condensed a lot of information into a concise useable format. I have certainly returned with fresh ideas and renewed enthusiasm...

Things are going exceptionally well, I obtained a $50,000 grant for the wireless and PDA system for ICU which I hope will be up and running in the next 4 weeks. We have participated in a major fund raising dinner...with the NSW police force to support the establishment of a simulation centre at POWH. The NSW police ministers, NSW premier and NSW governor and some of the famous sporting legends attended the dinner which was held at the Sydney Football Stadium.
I am looking forward to next year, It is already sounding very exciting...

We are preparing a sepsis-based teaching program (called Setup project). We believe sepsis is an opportunity to teach excellence in intensive care, change concepts and implement evidence-based protocols. This initiative would be very well received in our country. We would like to share with you our steps toward this major program. We have already elected two intensive care units in distinct Brazilian regions, in order to create an ICU network specifically to apply basic quality indicators (for instance, sedation scale, ASA and beta-blockers in ACS, DVT prophylaxis tidal volume in ARDS, etc.) The staff members of these ICUs will be in charge of spreading the learned concepts. The impact of this initiative will be measured. Thank you again for sharing this wonderful opportunity with us.

After the eye-opening conference in the Spring, I am now trying to set up an evidence-based ICU protocol. I'm also talking to the medical school about purchasing the simulator...

...The meeting...has now spurred me on to bigger and better function as an intensivist. I am extremely grateful to Eli Lilly for the opportunity to be involved in what I think is a ground breaking form of networking and education for the intensive care community. We do not get the chance to brainstorm in small groups at conferences, and the simple exchange of ideas in such a forum has much to commend it. To all those involved I wish to say Thank you.
